It did not even seem like the read the whole question because they said exactly what I was asking.
The question was...
What exactly is Habitat for Humanity? Where is the charity?
I don't understand how this is a charity and where the money goes. These people getting the homes still have to pay. Anyone can get a home with no money down, so that is not a factor. The payments on these homes are regular payments. I know someone who got a home in NC and her payment is only 100 less than my house payment and she got her home ten years ago.

Also, they have no rights to the houses and cannot sell them without paying back.

I don't even get what the big deal is. I think it is mostly the people getting a kick out of building the home for them. Other than that, I would not give any money to it unless I am further enlightened to anything else.

I don't know what that charity is, I have never heard of it. Whatever it is, it doesn't sound like charity at all. I am pretty sure the money go to the builders; they have connections in the government and a lot of power.

The houses are sold to the people at "no profit," meaning they pay for the cost of the materials and any "paid labor." But most of the labor in the house is donated, and the people who get the houses are usually expected to work on them as well.
I had the privilege of working on a couple of the houses rebuilt in the Gulf Coast area (post Katrina) and they use really good materials, and most of the people who do the "craftsman" type work are very skilled. The person getting the house is getting a well made house for much less than it would normally cost. Plus the loans are usually very low interest rates.
They are not free, they are just low cost.

Most people would not qualify for a loan. Yes they do have programs with no money down but you must be on the job for a year and meet the banks credit criteria.
The money goes toward buying more property and building materials.

Jimmy Carter's front group.

I've donated material for this charity before in the city where I live. I have since ceased.

I simply lost faith in the organization.
Now I have joined a local coalition of community business people that give money, material, and man-power to help those in my city that honestly require assistance from their fellow citizens.

As I said: I no longer believe in Jimmy's front group.

Look at the website. But no-one asks to contribute to a charity if you don't want to. If you have doubts about it's methods/purposes/mode of operation give your money to something else.

I volunteer with Habitat for Humanity but only
for hand on help, don't know anything about
the money.

All I know is that I help to make a deference.

This is for Olesya C.
don't make comments about a charity that you know nothing about it makes you look STUPID.
