MONEY!!!

Scientists are after reproducible truth; however, in order to facilitate this aim, they must often establish a reputation in the scientific community and also in certain political arenas. This is necessary in order to gain the financial support for their search for the primary goal. I'd say a scientist is still a scientist if they put the truth first, and the reputation second. But too many of them allow the integrity of research to be diluted or even completely compromised by the search for a good reputation or more money. Then they can no longer (in my opinion) be called scientists.

For a real scientist it is neither the truth nor reputation that is required! The work with which he impresses himself and get a real satisfaction that he have done something is more important than anything!
