I think the most important factor in getting a college degree is wanting to be there. If you don't have a passion for being in college, you're going to fail. If you're passionate about History, then go for it.

While there are certain degrees that will help you get a job right out of college (e.g. accounting, electrical engineering), there aren't that many people out there working in the field of their particular area of study in college. Many people get their jobs by networking, not because of what they studied in college.

Don't go to college just to go. Make sure you want to be there. I know that wasted a lot of money floundering around in college and getting bad grades because I didn't know what I wanted to do.

Maybe take some time off from school and figure out what you want to do. Just my two cents...

A history degree is a very good undergraduate program if you intend on pursuing a law degree. Most history degree programs require a lot of research and writing . I've read on several top law school websites, that there isn't a particular undergrad major that prepares you for law school, but history, political science, psychology and english are some of the programs that prepare you for the amount of research and writing that will be required in law school.

No I dont think its worth it unless you want to be a history teacher or something like the History Channel expert or something. Who really uses that stuff like talking about? Now if you went into Education with history as a concentration, I think that would be a better deal because you would be able to do more things. You dont want to limit yourself when dealing with your future. Keep the possibilities as high as possible. Or you could even choose another program of study, and get History as a minor if thats your passion.

Any bachelor's degree can help you to get a job that's better than burger-flipper. But it's nice if you have a particular job in mind when you choose your degree. (Don't be afraid if you don't, though; I didn't!)

depending on what state you live in, and also the need for teachers in that state

check out the occupation handbook, to see what type of jobs are available for that type of degree. You also can look to see what type of job interests you, they give requirements needed for each job.

the book is better than the web site. every library has a currant copy
