Apocalypse: Actually meaning "unveiling" or "revelation," this word is frequently used to describe the end of the world as we know it. Though many apocalyptic scenarios depict a terrifying, destructive end, some are rather gentle, having to do with the enlightenment of the human race or the dawning of a New Age. This term is also used to refer to the Book of Revelation.

Armageddon: is a Christian concept originating in the Bible (Revelations 16:16) and which refers to the final battle between the forces of good (lead by Jesus) and the forces of Evil (lead by Satan).

Very interesting question which Dorothy and I have been discussing over the breakfast table.

We went to our local Indian Restaurant in Dungle last night and we both decided to go for the very, very, hot curries which were on their ‘Specials Board‘.

Dorothy had the Armageddon, while I had the Apocalypse. The former is made with red chilli, while the latter with green chilli and a mystery ingredient.

We both lived in India for a number of years so we are quite accustomed to hot food, but boy, oh, boy, these were blazing! The waiter was chortling with laughter as our faces turned redder and redder. I gave up first and grabbed the water jug. Dear Dorothy soldiered on until she finally had to give in and ask for a sip of water.

This morning I am rather tentative on sitting down while Dorothy is fine. So, I would say that the Apocalypse is the strongest curry with that mystery ingredient.

Hopes this helps.

Armageddon is the apocalypse

Armageddon (Greek αρμαγεδδων; also spelled Har-Magedon in some modern English translations) is a climatic battle between good and evil mentioned in the Book of Revelation in the Christian New Testament, or more generally, an apocalyptic catastrophe.

Apocalypse (Greek: Ἀποκάλυψις -translit. APOKALYPSIS, literally: the lifting of the veil), is a term applied to the disclosure to certain privileged persons of something hidden from the mass of humankind. The Greek root corresponds in the Septuagint to the Hebrew galah (גלה), to reveal. The last book of the New Testament bears in Greek the title Αποκαλυψις Ιωαννου, and is frequently referred to as the Apocalypse of John, but in the English Bible it appears as the Revelation of St John the Divine, or the Book of Revelation. Earlier among the hellenistic Jews, the term was used of a number of writings which depicted in a prophetic and parabolic way, the end or future state of the world (e.g. Apocalypse of Baruch), the whole class is now commonly known as 'Apocalyptic literature'. However, the Apocalypse technically refers to the unveiling of God, in his guise as the Messiah, and not to all of the destruction of the world which will accompany God's Revelation of Himself to

Armageddon is a place whereas the Apocalypse is an event. The plains of Megiddo is where the final act of the Apocalypse is played out (you can see this on any map).

Hello,

NOT MUCH!! as they both amount to the same thing, the wiping out of the human race as a species on planet earth.

**Armageddon I think is mutually assured self destruction via weapons of mass destruction. Nuclear annilhalation

**Apocalypse isnt nesseccarily caused by humans and could refer to catastrophic natural events like mutiple mega volcanic explosions like Kraktoa or comet hitting the earth or mutiple climate change events that make life un-sustainable here on earth.

Hi Duncan,

Barry G has nailed this one.

Armageddon is the final battle between good and evil.

The apocalypse is the return of God / Christ to the world (ie. Judgement Day).

These two expressions do have a tendency to get confused.

I think Armagedon is man blowing the world up and the Apocolypse is the benevolent Christian God doing it cus we have all been very naughty and he enjoys a good bit of smighting every few millenia!

I'm probably wrong though as Barry G has been on Wiki again!
