For a woman it's mainly to get love and affection that she's not getting from her husband.
For a man there are lots of reasons like the need to have sex more frequently than is happening at home, or because he needs a new woman who loves him and flirts with him and make him feel like a king while his wife just needs him to fix stuff in the house, or that he's had too much to drink and he's horny...

I wont condone people having affairs But I am of the impression that it is generally to fill a void , a relationship isn't new for long and both parties settle into a deep and less erotic friendship after a few years, so it is my impression that it is at this time that usually a partner will start looking for that stomach turning sweaty palm weak at the knee's type of new love ,that drove them to distraction in their younger days .
So I think it can be for many reasons but generally it is a need that to be in love not just to be in a relationship.

I don't really know !! My husband said he cheated because we weren't getting on real well, he didn't know how l felt about him, he was confused and hurt and the sl*t was available and very willing ( I added the last bit cause that's what l think !! ) For women l don't really know. It is certainly not something l could ever do to someone l loved !! Maybe some women cheat because they crave attention that they don't get from their husbands or maybe boredom or they are just plain slu*ts that can't help themselves. Who really knows why people cheat, they just do unfortunately for the partners who get hurt !!!!

Something is missing in the marriage. It could be any number of things. A lover in an affair can temporarily meet some emotional or sexual needs that are not met in the marriage. There are also affairs based on pure lust, and others in which one spouse "pays back" an unfaithful spouse by having an affair.
