Some chemicals necessary for modern technologies grow better under zero-g or low gravity. Crystals grow more perfectly.
Crystals of 3-5 Semiconductors for use in super computers have an improved quality. Crystals of Proteins grow longer and better leading to easier identification, and better drugs and medicines.
That is just one way in which it would pay for itself.
To reach Mars it is much cheaper and easier to assemble and launch rockets from the low gravity of the Moon. We need a manned visit to Mars to determine for certain if Life ever existed there. If Life did once exist on Mars it would change our current view on it's origin. It would be almost certain that Life on Earth and Mars were linked, and that could even lead to an extra-solar origin for Life on Earth.

Its absolutely the right idea the logical next step. I've thought for awhile this would be a good idea. However my idea involves a spaceport meaning a place to launch missions to mars and the solar system from the moon, as the moon has less gravity its easy to launch from. Not sure if the nasa plans include this.

I do not think that we should do it with China's dollars. But with a balanced budget that accommodates education, social security, a strong military, and universal health coverage (which is no more fanciful then a city on the moon) then I say go for it. Exploration of the mind blowing expanse that surrounds our little planet is irresistible and worth doing simply because we can. Space exploration is one accomplishment of the United States that does not count profit as a motive.

It will absolutely do some good.
First in the short term, it will create jobs, and help the economy.
Second, in the near future, technology created for this project will benefit all of us.
Thirdly, many scientists agree that in the long term, the survival of the human race depends on us getting off of this planet.
All in all, a pretty good deal!

Outer area is a international land. everyone can build everywhere. no person has to pay lease only like in Antarctica. So how supply them authority over the moon land? They weren't even there. The paper is valueless.

its a great idea!! why put all our eggs in one basket? we need to start increasing our species chances of long term survival - so we must spread ourselves as far as possible. The moon is an excellent starting point because we wont have to use so much fuel to go anywhere else ie: it take a massive amount of force to leave the earths gravitational well

Yes, we have to get of this planet sometime. It will probably be an international effort as it's unlikely America could afford the cost of doing this alone as the the cost would run into tens of trillion's

this is correct. they want to build a base on the moon.
it may do some good, but I can think of lots of good causes for the money on earth, in the USA, UK and further afield.
i have my doubts if they went their in the first place...
