I believe there was something invloving a doll as well, but I can't remember much about the movie.

well....the movie you most probably want is 'Child of Glass' ,a 1978 movie directed by John Erman.Its actually a movie for kids....
I dont remember too well either but its about this little girl who was killed by pirates for not revealing the Treasure's whereabouts - which,incidentally,is hidden in the doll(Child Of Glass).A family moves into the house where she lived and their kid finds a weird blue light in the barn...its the ghost girl....then he has to help the ghost,she wants her doll back.And yes,the boy does fall into the well in one scene.
PS:George C. Scott isnt in the movie

Omg I know the movie your talking about I havent seen scince probably 89 or so but I will watch this question cause Ive been wanting to know that same answer for a while thanks for reminding me about it I loved the movie I think the doll was something left for the future girl to find thats what linked the two together. Wasnt the ghost a bluish color or something.

You should try googling what you remember and maybe that'll help some the only movie I can remember something like that has George C. Scott in it.
