Even with Janis "out of the equation"(?) there are many great female rock singers:
Pat Benatar
Ann Wilson (Heart)
Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders)
Shirley Manson (ex-Garbage)
Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane/Starship)
Dilana (she was in Rockstar Supernova, about to release a new album)
There are three Canadian ladies who totally blow me away...Beth Hart, Amanda Marshall, and Sass Jordan.
Any more?

I think tat a lot of female rock vocalists are in the band more because they are a girl rather than they're voice. It's not always true, but more often than not, if you see a girl on stage with a rock band, she's either in an all girl band, or is skinny, big breasted, "gorgeous" and wearing clothes that would barely cover a toddler.

Female rock vocalists ??? It's ok with that. What is wrong with that !!!! There are so many cool bands in rock music with female vocalists and they keep the music at its best.

nightwish
runaway
joan jett and the blackheart
lita ford
theatre of tragedy
hellion
L7
Vixen
heart
-etc

When I think about my favorite groups none of them have female singers. It's not that I don't like women singers, I do, just that typically the rock I like has male vovalists.
