Though it is, as others have noted, the same day, I can not imagine someone slaving over a hot oven preparing a traditional meal, yet, those from down under say they do!
Only other thought, Know why they start 10 hours earlier? So Father Christmas will have time to make it back to northern climates before the midday sun gives him a bout of heat prostration!

We celebrate on December 25th, dummy!
[Although some places do "Christmas in July" cos it can be snowy in the East, up the mountains. Nobody I know goes to them however.]

My ex father in law actually asked this question in all seriousness 10 years ago.!! (his son was a fxxkwit too)
Though it does feel really weird celebrating Christmas in the extreme heat of the Australian summer I shall be opening my prezzies at least 10 hours ahead of the Poms back home.
