Why marriage between first cousins were banned in many states in USA?

Marriage among cousins were common throughout the world and it is also not considered as taboo in most society around the global since cousins were not siblings.Why in the United States the condition is a bit different?Is it because it's considered almost incest in the region or is it way to cope with genetic or congenital defects that run in one's family to make sure the American population with congenital defects were biologically controlled?Any comments on this topic please.......

It isnt so much a matter of taboo as marriage beetween first cousins has lead to disastarous results in the past with genetic shadowing. All you have to do is look to mideval age royalty in europe and russia. Also, this has evidenced itself in certain dog breeds such as Dobermans. Just ask the AKC. As far as attempting to control the issue, I cannot come up with one good reason to allow it because the parents are not the ones to pay the price, it will be paid by the child who will potentially have to live disabled for something it had no say in at all. Not only that but the medical costs in some of these cases become astronomical which drives up insurance prices or amy take away public medical funds from tens or hundreds of other people. It's not a morality question at all as far as public perception but it its a morality issue for the future child ond an economic question for the public.

A bloodline too close causes mental illness and mutations of the body. If cousins married once in a family, it probably would not matter, but if the laws let it go once, they would have to let everyone if they wanted and that would cause problems.
