When was the strapless dress first designed?

I'm trying to research when it was first made in the relatively modern era. (I don't think Cleopatra wore one like in a movie I saw)
The oldest strapless dress I found was actress Mae West wearing one during the 1920's. Can anyone show me and earlier picture of one? Who was the earliest designer and all that?

..I think the dressless strap came first..
..Before the discovery of cotton weaving..
