Yes. Cause he was guily of raping a girl/woman, so what else could happen?

He is found guilty, he has to undergo the punishment as per the verdict. The crime was commited while he was in uniform and discharging a Government order!
The time is immatrial but if the criminal act is disclosed to the right authorities even after 10 years and the case is supported by true materials, evidence, one is liable to undergo the punishment.
But cooked up ones have to be examined carefully by the court and if any false evidence is provided, the victim should get proper compensation...
A number of Nazi war criminals were taken out of rat holes and punished. Some got the punishment just before their death and they died in the prison cells.

I can imagine the dilemma of the judge, making a decision while not affecting the US-Phils Relationship and not letting those activist parade his office.
It is good that he was found guilty for the victim, but I really think that what happened should be a lesson for the girl "NICOLE", not to talk or go with a stranger.

Is she a hooker?
if she is, then i don't think Smith is guilty.
its really hard to prove to be guilty when the woman is a hooker.

I am assuming that this trial was either a military one or overseas one... and I can tell you fisrt hand that military courts move extreeeemly slow. So, a year ago is about right for his case to fianly go through.
Now, if he did rape anyone... even if it was a year ago and the court found him guilty, I totaly agree. Time doesn't change the fact that rape happened to the victim, now does it?

Yeah if he was found guilty of rape than he should recieve the punishment befitting a rapist. Especially if he is an officer in the armed forces. He is supposed to be a leader and a leader doesn't go around raping people.
