For free - can't go wrong with google-earth. I got a very nice picture of my mom's house which is in the middle of nowhere... Any major city will have good detail as well.

If you are in the USA, terraserver is another good choice. It does not require the download of additional programs.
I used it to get an aerial pic. of land my husband and I were thinking about buying. It can give you an aerial view or a topographic view.

www.googleearth.com has the updated satellite images ! recently updated in year 2006!
www.wikimapia.com has images taken in the year 2003!
u would need a high-speed server for fast accessing.......
*military areas can't b seen on these maps!!
in wikimapia u can even mark ur own 'sweet home'....

you must tyr google earth on earth.google.com .u musthave to be noline all the time while searching ur home!!!!!!!!!!
