Voodoo as you spelled it is the religion as it is practiced in New Orleans. There are different lwa used than the Haitian Vodou. The practice in New Orleans also uses Orishas and uses elements from Hoodoo and witchcraft. It is not a religion I am totally familiar with.

Vodou from Haiti is one I am very familiar with. In Vodou your ancestors are honored, the lwa are served, and Bondye (God) is honored. It is a monotheistic religion. The lwa are not gods they are simply spirits that have been elevated by Bondye to help us. We know that without Bondye we would not exist, nothing would exist. We acknowledge Bondye but we do not have service for Him. He is too distant from us.

The first you learn in Vodou is to honor your ancestors. Your ancestors have your best interest in mind. They will work the hardest and strongest to get you what you need. After our ancestors we call upon the lwa to aid us. When you are born you have a lwa that has chosen to walk with and work with you. This lwa is called your Met tet or master of the head. This lwa will also work the hardest and strongest for you. We use songs, dance, and prayer to call the lwa down.

Hoodoo is simply African American folk magic. The practices incorporate the use of herbs, stones, and other natural objects to bring about a desired effect. Sympathetic magic is the main focus. This type of magic used objects to represent a person, place, or desired effect. It is a magical system that has become widely popular in New Orleans. Voodoo( NO religion) and Hoodoo have been combined to form the Voodoo that most see in New Orleans.

Im not sure the differnece between the two.

But I know alot of it is pyscological and chemical.

Some real Voodoo tribs are really alchemist they unawarely posison or infect a person with natural herbs and such that make them hallicinate or in some cases appear dead.

The best example is the use of a pufferfish poison that makes a person appear dead and since people in some countrys do not have the medical technology to tell for sure they are buried however in shallow graves. When the person finally comes out of the state of near dead they usually havent eaten in a few days and are deathly sick which makes them appear to be "Zombies" imageign seeing a person dig up through the ground you though was dead that hadent eaten or drank anything or showered in 4 days and have deathly sick..

its actualyl pretty intresting try google searching you would be suprized to hear what has happend to people there was also recently a movie about voodoo where a director doubted a voodoo preist and woke up 3 weeks later in the states with no recolection how he got there.

Voodoo is a religion, it is practised mostly in Haiti, I'm sure in the 60s there were these people found working in mines they were called the living dead, they had apparently been buried and brought back to life, it is just the power of suggestion, you have to remember these people are living in villages no t.v and very little contact with the outside world, voodoo is very important to them, they believe in their religion the way we believe in ours
If you go to Haiti you can go to a voodoo ceremony, of course as you are a tourist there is a charge. If you have been to Haiti you will know how poor the people are, I have met quite a few,as poor as they are,and they are very poor, they do not beg, If you are in the Dominican Republic it is worth a trip, I admit it is a bit scary but well worth the effort.

Hoodoo comes from Hurdu people of Africa mainly Yuruba tribe between Nigeria and Dahomey now called Benin. It migrated to America and was then called voodoo which spells differently but is pronounced the same with the black accent. It is originally a nasty black magic. Amitiés. Salut.

Voodoo is a sort of religion (I think!) which I don't really know anything about.

The Hoodoos are a natural feature created by rain washing away soft rock leaving columns of harder rock behind and are situated just outside of Baff in Alberta Canada!
