I totally agree. Firstly in the past, for no particular reason at all, women were treated as slaves in every way imaginabe. men don't see it or realize it, but what ur saying is true. i have guy friends who are like, i cant drink cause IM A GIRL. this treatment that we recieve is totally uincalled for and unfair. women are born with less stamina and more fat the males. its a fact. but then why do we see more fat lazy(forgive me for being so rude) men than women. guys can be horny and sex freaks, which many are, and not be doing anything wrong at all. i mean compare the no of women who call male prostiitutes as to men who call for female prostitutes. same with rape cases. unfartunately the government and society seems to be enjoying or recommending it by, like u say, paying women less than men or giving them less opportunities to succeed. i dont understand it, but whats worse is that nobodys trying to make it better. u watch a beer commercial and there are a bunch of sexy women with a large amount of cleavage and that makes men expect it of us. on top of tt, so many women dont fight back but see this and start dieting and using mini skirts.. its horrible. i think the onyl way this can begin to slowly but surely get better is if women begin standing up for themselves, as we already have. we shouldnt dumb ourselves down or sell ourselves for a hot guy or anything, but be who we are and be strong confident women. i only hope this does change and we are treated as the stong people we are(i mean we have our period, babies popping outta us while men just enjoy the sex. i mean men say PMS is no excuse, well thats cause none of em have tons of blood oozing outta em every 28 days!). this is kinda what oprah is doing. standing up for women and showing we can do everything men can do, and more, and IN our stlyish little heels.

What are men's roles in society? Women obviously have a very important role of child bearing. Men are the leaders, the heads of the households. This seems to be a much less obvious role. Sure, they are physically stronger, but physical health does not equal good leadership. That idea is something men have needed to create to make powerful roles for themselves and their sons. Without the mysterious notion that men are inherently better leaders, men might just be slaves. You see, long before Christianity and most modern religions there were feminine based cultures and religions. Goddesses ruled before Yahweh came around. And politics and religion are close buddies. So men became the presidents, the congress, and the only ones who could vote! Women have been conditioned over centuries to take it, to assume that is the right and true way of the universe is to bow down to men. When the truth is, we have powers much greater than that of most men.. oppression makes people forget what they are born with. Women as a whole community have forgotten how strong we are because it's what our momas taught us, it's what we see in the news, it's a lack of role models, and a million other things.
Theres no quick fix to the situation every human being finds him/herself in today. We have a long history of oppression to deal with. And men have a long history of being powerful to deal with as well. It's hard to break from the mold.. for both sides. It's hard to shift what a community thinks is right and wrong.
But with every new generation people as a whole are gaining knowledge and understanding from the previous ancestors. Things are slowly becoming better for women in most places, and I'm sure the others will follow suit after long enough.
Life is a funny thing. Bad things can happen and the people you are supposed to trust tell you they are good things.
Who do you believe: your intuition or the man with a gun in your face?
Most people are inevitably going to start trusting the man with the gun.
And here we are.
The question is, what are you willing to do to change this situation?

Religion, I'm afraid, is the root cause of this. Most religions force women to be "submissive" and if they don't, they are punished, sometimes killed.
I am very depressed by the rising number of Muslim women who are embracing the burqua to assert their religion in the West. In many Arab countries women are forced to wear it. It would be much better if every Muslim woman, in sympathey with her sisters, refused to cover herself up to such extremes. Also, I would love to see some real moves against female circumcision. Just as bad, in Africa there is still slavery going on.And the world ignores it.
Even religious Jewish women wear wigs rather than show their hair and of course, you are forbidden to touch a woman during her period. She is considered "unclean".
Here in the UK it is illegal to pay a women less for the same job. Promiscous women are seen as sluts, while men get away with it. Yes, it is hypocricy.
However, common sense should rule. Men are physically stronger than women and it makes sense that they should have the jobs like firemen. As a woman, I'd rather see a six foot man come to rescue me from a burning building than a 5f 2 in little woman.
Interestingly enough, my friends and I have a theory that countries with dominant men are particularly violent. Africa is a good example of this.

Your premise is too sweeping. Yes female oppression exists. Is it in every facet of every society? No. Are women the only victims of a ruthless society? No. Are women really subject to a lower wages and being locked out of the best jobs? Of course not - all things being equal absolutely not. Are all women who have sex considered sluts? Hardly (that's laughable).
You could take the same illogical steps with men: Why do men always lose in divorce court? Why do men never get primary custody of their children? Why do men always get arrested on domestic violence charges, regardless of the circumstances? Are these claims valid? Of course not - they're just as ridiculous as yours.
You want real answers, start out with a valid premise.

It is the society we live in. The sad part is that we are all to blame for this. If a man doesn't offer to carry the heavy bags for his partner we are very quick at calling him names (lazy, ungentlemanly even bully!), if a man in his early 20's says that he is a virgin, we make fun and ridiculous him. As for jobs, before I became I nurse, I was a software engineer, my partner was the same, and I was earning more than him! I think the employment thing is nothing more than something that used to happened in the past and some employers do try to keep it up but as long as the female employees allow it to happened.

History is very sexist, man has a history of being in a higher position for some reason, but all that is beginning to change. Be glad you aren't living some 200+ years ago, when womens job was to bear children, and do the housework.

When a woman has been abused for so long it becomes a norm for her to accept everything that her violent husband/partner does to her, not because she enjoys it but because it becomes a way of life, and because she is not only physically abused but also mentally abused. Women need to be strong enough to fight the oppressors and fight against this cruelty.
All i can say is that its a screwed up world we live in, and all sisters should unite and rid this world of oppression. (Nice thought but i really don't see it happening)

Men are physically stronger than women. If a man comes at me with his fists and tells me to scrub the floors in his house, I'm not going to argue with him. And that's how men used to be then gained their power over women. You can see how it used to be 500 years ago if you just look at how Muslim families are. Of course women want to wear their burqa and love their religion because their fathers, husbands, borthers have ordered them to say and do these things. She will not admit to anybody that inside she is terrified of that man. Now in our society men aren't going to wave their fists about if they want dinner but through generations this slavery mode has been imprinted into the female psyche. This is what women saw at home with their mothers. Maybe this is one of the reason there are so many single mothers out there. They don't want their children to grow up believing that men are more important than women...I dunno.

I know what you mean! It's a mans world! We should all be treated equally in my opinion. To be fair, there is a lot of heavy jobs that most women couldn't do and a man could! But otherwise, we are all the same!
