I'm 26 years old. I was on the second-to-last repetition on my final set of curls (free weights, standing bar curl), and I was struggling. So, like an idiot, I dipped my knees, pulled back my upper body, and tried to swing the bar up to chest level. I've always been such a stickler for gym safety, I don't know what I was thinking.

Anyway, it hurt intensely when it occurred, and though I gave it a couple months to heal, I still get quite a bit of pain on most days. It's about the middle of my lumbar region, though the pain radiates as far as my left hip on bad days.

Yes, I know I should have scheduled an appointment with the doctor a long time ago, but I have to admit, I've been putting off the visit mostly because I don't want to hear what he has to say. Still, I've swallowed my pride and made my appointment. So what can I expect him tell me I've done to myself?

Could be anything from a low back strain/sprain to a disc protrusion. Your doc may do some tests such as an x-ray and/or MRI. These tests are not always required. Best thing to do in the meantime is to rest and learn how to lift correctly as well as strengthen your abdominals to better support your low back. Ask for a referral to a Physical Therapist to help you do this. Depending on what state you are in you may or may not need a referral.

Tricky question because its impossible to accurately assess unless you are a professional, however, if the pain has been going on for that long, and you have allowed the injury to rest (without results), you may have slipped a disk. If you have allowed it to go on for so long and you are in pain most days now, the disk may have herniated. Some doctors believe in chiropractors, some do not. I have had many back problems and would definitley suggest a good chiropractor over surgery, meds and /or pain any day. Good luck

A strained back muscle in that area could take a long time tyo heal. You could have some muscle damage that has coused it to bunch up tightly in order to protect itself from further injury. Soak in a hot bath and get a heat pad. Those may help if your muscle is contracted to protect itself.

herniated disk is going to be your biggest concern i know a girl that hurt herself with poor form and she's getting shots in her spine to this day and surgery is still a long recovery after a $6k average price tag with the possibility of having to need it redone. next time put ur back to a wall or use a preacher bench technique ya poor formed fool lol jk

Depends.

You could have done a nerve, muscle, tendon, ligament........

I would suggest that next time, wear a back brace.
