first, check if your laptop has a built in wireless card.
go to control panel > system > hardware > device manager > lok for: network adapters - if it doesnt shows any wireless adapter (wlan card / network controller) then you need to buy one so your wireless router can communicate with your laptop.
most common built in wireless cards are : intel R pro & broadcom wlan. most commonly used wireless cards are : linksys, dell, 2wire & netgear.

Depending on how old ur laptop is u might need both
if its a newer laptop it will have a wireless card built right into it
then all u need is the wireless router
wired internet is good but it takes away the fun from having a laptop so go for the wireless
i recommend a linksys router they are around 40 or 50 dollars but they are worth it

Wireless router is so that multiple people can use the wireless computer. Card will ensure that LAN works for you (so wired internet) works.

in case you do not already have the router, be confident to get one which has ethernet ports on the decrease back. virtually all of them have 4; I have a D-link, and this is that way. one element that couldn't typically suggested is which think ofyou've got to "bridge" the modem previously the setup works accurate. No biggie, yet I had to do it. Your ISP tech help can help you or you'll discover out how with a web search for.

within your home all you would need is a router. if you want to take it further than a wireless card would be needed.
