This happens frequently (many nights already)... When I'm about to fall asleep, usually nearing dreaming stage, I "see" a flash of light with my eyes closed. It's as if a strong white light was flashed right before my eyes, then I'm jolted awake and I open my eyes, but there's nothing. It happens only once a night, then I fall asleep after that... I sleep with no lights on, so there's no real light there; the weather's never like there was a lightning outside my window either. I'm wondering if it comes with the "alpha", "beta", etc. stages of sleep, and if anyone else experiences it.

From a scientific point of view, I would guess that it occurs during the earlier stages of sleep...and yes it happens to me as well from time to time. Once I found myself awake after such an episode and unable to move! Kinda freaky! Anyway it possibly coming from the firing of neurotransmitters.
