I think that the 1987 series is better because of the great mix of comedy and action. I grew up watching that one and never did like the newer versions (2003 and up). My cousin who is 17 thinks that the newer versions are better. What is your opinion.

The original had more to it that the newer one.
April was a reporter instead of a scientist.
Had a better plot of meeting the turtles.
The personality's were better.
You could see their eyes.
Shredder story line was different.
Splinter was the only one able to take on shredder.
Turtles could only take on shredder through alternate means never head on.
Mutants Cowboy and Bee-bop were funny to watch.
Those were the days :)

I agree - the original series was the best, these newer series are just trying to trade in on what was better. They could have given the show nothing more than a face lift, better animators, etc, and had it just as appealing for new viewers. After all, the Turtles had from 13 to 19 before they couldn't be called teenagers anymore - a lot could happen in 6 years....

You had to be around during their first run. The original Turtles were so fresh, so different. There was loads of humor, but they took themselves seriously because they were created in the middle of a comics boom where heros were becoming dark and gritty (courtesy Frank Miller, who did both the dark and gritty version of Batman and Daredevil.) The Turtles were a spoof that took of and developed a life of their own. It's not that the Turtles were bad in their later runs. But for people who did not see them in their original apearances, it is hard to understand how innovative, unusual and ground-breaking they really were.

I grew up watching the 80s series. I loved it. But I don't like this new series. There was some guy there I didn't know and I didn't see April. I wish the old one would come on. Maybe on Boomerang some day.

The older version is better and so are the voices of the characters. I think the storylines were more interesting too.
