two balikbayan boxes per person. the easiest way to spot the line for the flight to the philippines would be by looking for a line with a lot of uniform boxes. hehe, am very good at packing to the exact limit of seventy pounds for international flight and fifty pounds for domestic flights. in fact it is an art.

From the US each passenger is allowed two pieces of checked luggage, up to 70 lbs each for free passage. You can pack for more weight but it will cost you. If you go above 100 lbs, the box will not be accepted.
And note that, if you need to fly into the provinces, you'll probably surpass the 20 kg aggregate weight limit on the domestic carriers. Cebu Pacific charged P20/kg over the limit for our stuff. They simply added the total weight of our baggage and subtracted out our total allowance to come up w/ the excess. Bring cash (hit the ATM or favorite money changer) before you get to Manila Domestic.
On our last trip my family brought 4 pieces among four members, two of them boxes. We could bring more stuff, considering what's in storage and the number of relatives who could use what we don't use. But it's just too heavy to lug around the airport when the other two passengers are just kids.

We once got a promo on Asiana where were were allowed three boxes per person. Otherwise like everyone said, two only.
If you have more than that, you'd be better off shipping it via boat as the airline overweight fees will often be higher than what is in the box. Some of the airlines also weigh your carry on so be sure to check with your airline.

Well, you're allowed 2 luggages and maybe what you saw are a family of 5. You can substitute your Samsonite luggage to a box since a box is lighter. The airlines doesn't really care how many you bring but you have to pay for excess baggage.

It depends from airlines to airlines but as a rule, your limit is 70 lbs. Your best bet is to send your LBC boxes thru FedEx. I should know, I work for FedEx.... hehehhe.
