go to start--> control panel--> network and internet connections--> network connections, then click the connection you are using, choose properties, and choose advanced, then check the box next to where it says "allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection"
Then open a command prompt and type "ipconfig", then go down to where you see "IP Address........and tell me what number you see on the other end of the ".........." 9translation: tell me what your IP address is). Just tell me when you answer this question.

the reason I am asking you to do this is because I have heard that if someone has an open internet connection and you know their IP you can go to start, all programs, accessories, connections, and choose remote desktop connection, then type their IP address in and choose connect and it will connect to their computer. I have never been able to do it because everyone I have tried to do it with always had network sharing disabled and therefore I could not connect to their computer. In addition, if they have a firewall or anything else it may warn them that I am trying to connect. I don't know what will happen if it works or if/how it will affect your/my computer or anything. But I basically just want to see if it will really work. So if someone would be willing to let me try then just enable sharing for your internet connection and tell me your IP when you answer this question.

It works. And you're right, if they're adequately protected, their firewall (either software or router firewall) will block your attempt. It looks just like when you connect via ftp (that's pretty close to what it really is). I've done this before for transfering files. It doesn't really do anything to your computer unless you copy something infected...

Dude no one will do this this is extremely unsafe as you gain steal personal data like Banks Info, Personal Info and steal Id and password info. Don't BS people.... not everyone is that stupid. And if your gonna act innocent, then just try it with someone you know.

Yes it will work, you should try this at work or at school or another computer with someone you know. Come on you must have one friend you know that will help you. Just tell them to adjust their settings.

that's not exactly how it works, but it works. i've seen it done from across the country. you sit and watch your mouse move all over the screen, but your not touching it. easier on ethernet, because these systems are setup for computer sharing.
