Would I get fired if I gave out my work address/number to an online friend of mine so she could use me as her reference, I only know her through MySpace and she is trying to apply at the same job company as me (in another town) and she really needs a job right now and I hate to see her suffer without any money cause it's the Christmas season and I really feel bad for what she's going through right now

There is nothing wrong with giving your friend the address/phone number of your company in order to help her to find a job and use you as reference. I am very sure you cannot be fired for that.

your boss should appreciate what you have done for the company as well as for other people. However, you must be careful not to lie to your company. You have to tell them what you know about the person; otherwise you could get yourself in trouble.

You could be fired for any reason... Helping someone to get a job by lying for them to get a job at the same company where you work would be one of them. It's one thing they turn out to be a good worker.. but if they end up causing problems at the company, it will reflect bably on you. I don't know about giving reference to someone I barely know.. Good luck.

No. You wouldn't get fired for giving her your phone number and address to use. However, the question is how well do you know this person and do you really trust her not to get into serious trouble later? If you do trust her then I say go for it. It's good to help friends like that. But if you don't really know her then I'd be careful. Good luck!

Definitely you won't get fired. It is very common for everybody to give work phone # to friends as reference. I just did earlier. My company is very strict. We are not supposed to our company phone # to public, but I did before I know the company policy. I didn't get fired. I am still working. Don't be silly! You have a good heart.

I don't believe you could be fired, but I would be careful because if she turns out to be a problem employee it could end up biting you in the back. It will not look good if she causes problems for the company and they find out you recommended her.

kind of sad you want to vouch for a random person you barely know off of myspace.
