I think it is because midget has been used as a negitive term. It is kind of like using the "N" word. (I don't think it is as bad as that) But I am not a little person. If I was I think I would rather be called a little person than midget.

The word midget makes them feel as though you're referring to them as something less than a person, whereas "little people" obviously includes them as people.

"Such terms as dwarf, little person, LP, and person of short stature are all acceptable, but most people would rather be referred to by their name than by a label."
Got this from the member's posted link and it makes sense to me. Call them by their name and in polite society, if you don't know it, either ask or say "sir" and "ma'am". It's called manners, decorum, sensitivity, and tact, something we all need more of for one another in this world!

The word "midget" when referring to a person is offensive.

I have always heard that they would rather be called a midget. Don't try to sugar coat the truth, its what they are and they should not be ashamed!
