Do a search on your State web site to find the State Labor board. check out the referenced web site for a fact sheet, about pregnancy discrimination. But first you are entitled to draw unemployment insurance, so get on that right away. It takes big bucks to sue anybody, but a big company can starve you out until you drop the suit. The Labor Board can give you all your options, but this type of discrimination is a Federal Offense and needs to be reported. If you know of anyone else from the same company that this has happened to get them to also file a complaint, and it will make a stronger case. If you really want to sue them try contacting the nearest Law school in your area. They almost always have a legal aid group that is free.

Are you sure you want to sue?
Generally large companies will not fire you for having a baby since there is no need (there's a lot of extra idle hands to cover for you). A rat b******d boss may fire you but he'll put it in such a way it has nothing to do with the baby.
Have you tried to contact the human resource department to discuss this?
Without money it will be hard to sue. The company will know this and drag out the case. In the meantime you will hve legal fees to pay and it will be a disruption on your life. what will you and your baby eat?
After you win or don't win....can you find a new job if your new employer finds out you been in a lawsuit against your company?

The U.S. has litigation laws that allow shysters, er, lawyers to sue without getting money up front. THey take 30% - 40% of whatever is won against the company (or whoever has deep pockets).
If this was, indeed, an unfair firing, consult a lawyer (you may have to shop around way outside your place of business--companies have been known to pay a "retainer" to every lawyer within 10 - 20 miles to prevent them from being able to sue (conflict of interest). Make sure you have everything documented--when, by whom, why, how, and what. EVERYTHING. That way, you cover yourself as best you can, because the company's lawyers are going to try to rip you a new asshole and then piss in it. Lawyers are soooooo nice, aren't they?
Best of luck.

Have all your information together for your case against this company. Contact a local / regional office of the labor department in your area. contact them and ask them about this and if what the company is doing is legal. In CA, we have at will employment clause.. but it's not right to lay off some one when they are pregnant or just because they are a parent. Not to mention - unethical. Make your case and make it loud... get people to look at this and what this co. is doing.. You should mention this company's name. Good luck on the lawsuit...

You can check with the civil liberties union, but these cases are very hard to prove. You will be out more money than you would eventually win, assuming you won. There are always ways to get around the issue.

Check with the ACLU. They may be able to help, or know of an organization that can.
Best Wishes,

I would contact the EEOC (equal employment opportunity commission). After filing a complaint they can also assist you with finding an attorney. www.eeoc.gov
