i live in the tropics (Philippines) i need fresh water plants readily available here

Unless you have native-only fish that you got from your area ponds, I recommend that you DO NOT introduce plants from the environment into your fishpond. You could introduce disease at best and chemicals at worst.

There's nothing wrong with store bought water-plants. They don't necessarily have to be native to your area to do well, and they are much safer.

I would think that you would have all sorts of native plants available, just pick out some that you like, pot them up and put in your pond
I don't use "bought" plants in my ponds, everything is native to my area and also they are more hardy
Just look around ponds in your area and find some

Go to your local fish store and see what they recommend. Natural plants in a fish pond are beautiful and some of them even bloom.

Water discoloration comes for decaying flowers in the water or algae's (tiny flowers) growing to be in the water. in case you upload something to kill the algae you will kill your different flowers too. I
