I don't use powder...If you do, do not use a powder with talcom, only corn starch talcom can hurt the babies lung if he/she breathes it in. Put powder on diaper before you put diaper on their butt. I only use diaper rash cream when they have a rash, then I use Borduix Butt Paste..works GREAT!!

I use the butt cream (destinin works really great) when she has a rash. No powder, it'll cause chafing, plus it's hard on baby's lungs.
If no rash, sometimes I'll still use a little cream, but still no powder. Let them dry a little before you close up the diaper. I keep a supply of dry washclothes for that in the changing station.

If the baby has a rash that you just cannot seem to get rid of the best thing to do is bathe the baby. Even a couple of times a day .
Then hold the baby for a half an hour of more with just a loose towel draped around their bottom. It is o.k. if you dress the upper half to keep the baby warm, but you want to get air to the baby's bottom as much as possible, for as long as possible each day.
A day or so of this and no more rash.
When you do have the diaper on the baby, apply ointment. But leave the powder for when there is no rash.

From a mom of 3......Only use cream when there is a rash present. No powder is necessary on top of that-it doesnt do any good. If there is no rash, nothing is necessary, in fact if you put the creadm on al the time how will the skin respond when there is a rash and you put the cream on, it probably won't.

If the baby does have a rash, I suggest just using corn starch, it keeps the area dry and keeps the diaper from further irritating the rash. if they don't have a rash i don't put anything....in the event that the baby is a girl, don't use baby powder, tests have proven that down the line it can cause certain female cancers.

If baby has a rash, butt cream, no powder. No rash, just a LIGHT dusting of powder.
Try to give baby as much diaper-free time as you can, especially if there's a rash and be sure to dry them really well after bathing (all the creases & crevices)

I do not put any powder actually I was warned that putting baby powder on their bum can choke them believe it or not..its a choking hazard. So I put zinc cream from safeway on her bum if I change her diaper and I notice that she has diaper marks on her bum. She hasnt had a rash yet and I put that cream on once or twice a day depending on the diaper marks..btw I am putting it on a couple times a day now because Huggies step 1-2 diapers up to 15 lbs really suck and are leaving little marks on her bum because they are to darn small for her and she is only 12 lbs but my bf bought 162 in a box so im going to use them until these marks become a little darker red., but usually i will put zinc oxide on once a day or pentagen which actually causes the pee to bead off her bum and dont touch her skin. and its great for when shes going to have a poo because its very easy to clean.

Butt cream if baby has a rash or diarrhea. Diarrhea causes rashes. If no rash then powder works well but use sparingly. Mostly in the front not back.
