Since it was my first baby, we found out as soon as possible. That way, we could prepare things, register for the right things, and only fight over one name instead of trying to pick a girls and a boys name.
We had a boy, and for the next baby, we will also find out the sex. If that one would be a girl, then any babies after that I would want to be surprises, because we'd already have both boy and girl things on hand (because I'm a huge packrat and keep absolutely everything).
If my next one is a boy, I will probably continue to find out the sex, just in case one of my potential children might be a girl and I would need to get girl things.
But then I know that I will most likely have more than one baby, and the option to do it different would still be there for me.
In a case where you were going to have one baby, and you knew that there was no way that you would ever give birth again (by choice or for a medical reason), then I would say don't find out. Not knowing the sex of your baby is one of the most incredible surprises possible, and I think that everyone should experience it just once (with the obvious exception being people that don't have any kids).

everybody has their own opinion. mine is wait till they are born and it be a surprise i just liked hearing that when my daughter was born its a girl then about 4 years later i was after my next one came they said its a boy i cryed cause i had my girl and a boy. but then there are ups about finding out you can get stuff that you need knowing gender. but there is stuff you can get even if its a boy or girl. i just loved not finding out for the fun and excitement when the day came and also not to mention all the bets that friends had going on lol.

I didn't know with my first, and i hated not knowing... I so wanted to go splurge on some clothes and things, but was unable to get much of anything that wasn't neutral!
I knew with all the rest and was able to get the nursery done before the baby came in the colors I wanted per gender.
Myself i'd much rather know then not. It made it easier for me to prepare the way I wanted to before the baby came!

well in India and all it's illiagal in many states to find the sex of the baby coz parents usually kill females. That's of course becuaseo f a lot of social contrians such as dowry, etc. But if you want to pick colors for the nursary and stuff, I guess knowing the sex is useful. But I wouldl ike it to be a surpise.

here is a cool way to surprise you take along with you to the dr. appointment the person who will have your baby shower or give the dr. that person phone # and let them tell that person then that person can send out invitations to all of the attending guest along with the baby sex but it should be kept from you and the dad then when the two of you step into the baby shower you can get your answer i know that sounds really cute like me lol allow that person to know so you can be prepaired and get the baby ready for a name gl

I have no patience and want to know as soon as possible. I also like to plan, buy clothing, think of names, mentally prepare myself and my daughter. But a lot of people I know prefer to have the surprise on the day of birth. I've also heard of people who were told one thing and then found out on the day the scan reading was wrong. So, it may not be a surprise for me on the day (any day now) but it will be a nice confirmation when we actually see her (or him).
Best wishes.

It depends if you want to be surprised.
I wanted to know the gender so I could fix up her room all nice. Also I didn't want all the gender neutral stuff.
If you do end up with the neutral colored stuff you gotta deal with everyone asking if it's a boy or a girl..
I also felt I could personalize everything more. You're pretty limited to sleepers and onesies if you choose not to know.
It's all a matter of personal opinions. And I for one would drive myself crazy not knowing.

If you want to do a lot of planning and getting stuff beforehand I think it's better to find out.
I am pregnant and due in May. I chose to keep it a secret. I am more traditional in that sense, and I like the suprise of it all!!!
I am just picking neutral stuff for the room, and the clothes I am buying so far! It works good for me!!

I think it is best to find out before, so you can have all of the stuff you need before hand. But then again if you find out before, and somehow the result was wrong, then you will have to get new stuff anyways. I guess it is 50/50. Do what your heart wants you to do, if you want to know then I say find out.
