As they said. That solution is such common sense that no one will want to do it, (or something like that).

It is actually something that should be done that way. No ifs, ands, or butts.

The real question is WHY hasn't it been done that way in the BEGINNING???

Throw out any bum that does'nt want to do that.

Getting rid of the IRS as it is now would be good. However, there are drawbacks to a flat tax. It puts a greater burden on the poor. Look at it this way:

If person A makes 100,000 and pays 10% tax, he still has 90,000 to live on, right?

If person B makes 10,000 and pays 10% tax, he only has 9,000 to live on and he's already far below poverty level by U.S. socio-economic standards.

I haven't thought enough about this issue to propose a plan, but I don't like the flat tax idea for that very reason.

Best Wishes,

Sue

Ain't gonna happen.......too many special interests involved to ever get enough support in Congress for one.

A flat tax means you get no deductions.....that means your mortgage interest and property tax deduction goes away (the banks and lender would scream bloody murder).....that means charitable contributions would no longer be deductible (all those charities would see their donations dry up).

And like someone else said, a flat tax has a regressive economic effect. If the tax rate is 10%, a family earning 100,000 will have 90,000 after taxes. Another family earning 10,000 will have 9,000 after taxes. The spending power will be vastly different for both families (they will pay the same money for a gallon of milk, for a gallon of gas, for a loaf of bread).

A national sales tax, or consumption tax, makes much more sense. The more you spend, the more you have to pay.

No! I say we get rid of the IRS and up the sales tax! That way all of the drug dealers, and black marketeers would have to pay just like the rest of us!
