It's the industry, both union and management. The American entertainment industry has no equal, although England makes good in-roads in music and sometimes even theater.

We are slick. Our actors are generally first rate and we recurit (and pay highly) the best foreign actors we find, like Jean Reno, Antonio Bandaras, Anthony Hopkins, Sean Connery.

Europeans, no offense, are sloppy. They let a lot of "sholog" into their TV and films.

Americans clean it up quite well.

We are squeeky clean.

This is not to say we don't make trash, we have YET to live down My Mother The Car

This is not to say England doesn't put out a gem like The Avengers in the last two seasons.

The last season of Friends saw each of the actors being paid like $2 million+ each for the entire season and they gave it their ALL.

The writers and producers were all paid highly.

All the UNION craftsman are paid $20 to $100 per hour and work 60 hour weeks.

If Dr. Who hadn't had Tom Baker, it might NEVER have found a following in the US.

Tom Baker opened up that show to the US market.

Tom Baker was also the longest Doctor in history, what 5 years.

Tom Baker helped make the Golden Voyage of Sinbad a success.

I mean lets face it, Americans consider Peter Sellers an American, they also consider Sean Connery an American.

Americans consider Paul Verhoven to be an American

I saw his talent in Turks Delight and Kathy Tipple

America POURS $5 million an episdoe into the last years of Cheers and Friends

They POUR $100 million into a film like Robocop

There are some GREAT European gems, but the subtitles get in the way.

I found La Femme Nikita to be vastly superior to the American remake

I rate Cries and Whispers over Citizen KAne as a terrific film

But most Americans have problems with subtitles

Very few foreign music makes it to American and when it does they do like ABBA did and sing it in English

American Entertainment is the Golden Arches for the world.

No one does Disney better than Disney.

And America sometimes does things ACCIDENTALLY. For example the TV show Hill Street Blues did well in Italy because the star had an Italian Surname, American didn't DO that to win the Italian market, the producers just happened to be friends with the actor and put him in the show for old times sake.

Robyn did well with her one album because it was honest and she did it in Enlgish. Her next album tried to be plastic and it was and it got no where with us.

Usher continues to be honest and he gets somewhere with us!

The Beatles, Stones, Who and Zepplin were honest with us and they got very far.

I think the same applies to a lot of our musical artists.

Don't foget America also ABSORBES a lot of Canadian artists and people then to think of them as American. Sarah McLughin, Avril Lavigne, the Guess Who, Gordon Lightfood, Neil Young.

In music it's more the "English speaking" artists that make it, rather than Americans.

Film and TV is very much American.

Some American TV is also English and foreign derivative.

All In The Family might be better known than Til Death Do Us PArt

And if it weren't for George Martin telling us about "Meet the Wife" we'd have never know what John Lennon meant!

Most American's still don't fully understand that line "It's time for Tea and "Meet the Wife!"

So at times the pop culture lines blurr.

We forget England gave us the "Mini skirt"

And I'm sure some other country will say that they gave it to England!

why... this happened back in the 20th century, when hollywood first started in the Us.... nearly every single thing started with in america eg television, so that is where it first began. australia, being one of the first countries to follow suit, began to copy the US and then the other cultures as well as they looked upon them. from what you say, you can also include the UK as well.
however i believe that other cultures would soon blossom over them i.e. japan, china... why china (well mainly Hong Kong), because they have been developing economically-wise (and culturally wise) very quickly in the past decade, and they have more people in the world over there, so i would be surprise when it surpasses the US soon. In fact the US is on a decline lately. Just my opinion though.

Now watch some American movies and see how bad our movies are.
