I was wondering if amphetamines are an MAOI? Because aren't monoamines serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine?? and amphetamines release stores of all of those neurotransmitters. So are amphetamines an MAOI?? And what exactly is an MAOI?

MAO is Mono Amine Oxidase. This is an enzyme involved in the detoxification (metabolism) of catecholamines (dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, catechol-estrogens, etc.).

I am not a pharmacist, but I don't think amphetamines are MAOIs. I believe MAOIs are a separate class of drugs.
