We named our oldest boy after me. Would not do it again.
It was OK when he was young, but when he got older, it was more confusing when his friends called.
Ring Ring:
--Hello
--Is Jack there?
--Which one?
--Uhhh - you mean there are two?
--Yeah kid - you got a problem with that?
--No sorry sir, I guess I'm calling for 'little' Jack.
--Well, that's me, because my son is bigger than I am.
--Oh, uhhhh
--You want the younger one or the older one.
--Uhh - not the old one.
--Hey Dude - whats your problem - show some respect.
Anyway - you get my drift.
We ended up calling him by his first intials J.P.

You can use whatever you want. If he is going to be a Jr., he will have the whole same exact name as his father. But some people use the same first and last names, with a different middle name. In this case, the son would have the same name, but not completely, so he wouldn't be a Jr.

Well, people nearly always give the child the father's LAST name, unless they aren't married and give the mothers.
It's all pretty much up to you. Sometimes people do the middle and pick a different first name, sometimes they pick a new first and middle name with the same initials as the father, or sometimes they do the same completely and tack a jr. on the end.
After I found out I was having a boy, my boyfriend's grandma lobbied hard for me to name him Johnny Lee Jr. That was his daddy's first and middle name, and she really liked it. But both of us hated that idea. I do not think a poor baby should be saddled with a 'Jr' his whole life.
What we ended up with was /kinda/ like naming him after his daddy. We picked Eian, which is a version of John. We didn't really pick it for the meaning, that was just a bonus.

When i named my son after his father i chose to give my son a different first name, his fathers name as a middle name and then his fathers last name, only we call him by his middle name, which he shares with his dad. His name is Kodee Justin we call him Justin and his dads name is Justin. If you were to do a JR. or II it would be the babies fathers entire name. We liked the idea of giving my son a different first name, so their initials and such werent the same, and for as my son got older, recieved mail and phone calls, we could seperate the two! Good luck!!!

It depends on you. My son has his father's full name with Jr. at the end. My brother likes his middle name but hates his first name, so his son only has the middle name. It just depends on what the parents choose to do.

If you want the child to be a "junior" then use both first and middle name, and last name as well.
I am not fond of the idea, as it gets very confusing for other people, especially in the child's teen years when a call comes it....is Joe there? Joe Sr or Joe Jr.
I like people having their own name - a normal one, I don't like those 'unique' names, they are a worse burden!

I think you can do it however you want. The tradition in my family is to have the son's middle name be the father's first (grandpa is edward anthony, dad is robert edward, oldest brother is jeffery robert, nephew is colton jeffery). I've heard of doing the full name, with a junior or the second, but then do you call the kid what his daddy is called and have it be confusing? Or do you call him Junior? By the way, every kid named Junior is teased somewhere along the line.

I think thats up to you, my son and his father have the same first name although I call my son by his middle name, it can get confusing at times especially at the doctors etc, they always have the wrong notes.

Traditional way is to do same first name, same middle name, same last name than followed by II or Jr. But it is up to you, you could leave out the JR. or just use the middle name. Good Luck

My son's father's name is Dustin Jack his fathers name is Don Jack and my son's name is Dean Jack. They all have the same intinals and they all have the same middle and last name. Thats how my son was named after his daddy. usually they take the full name and adhere jr to the end.

You would use the whole name and he would be jnr. Or you could just use parts of dads name. If i have a son I wanted to name him after my husband, but he doesnt want too. But we will use part of his name (middle maybe) in the babies name, if its a girl we are using my husbands grandmothers middle name as a middle name. My first daughter has my middle name for her middle name. my second daughter has her aunts name as her middle name and my 3rd daughter has my grandmothers name as her middle name. I think its nice to use family names. I also found it easier to choose a name that matched there middle names. Its so hard to pick names.
