It's called entertainment. And while it may not have sophisticated plots, they do have a "soap opera" genre that hard core fans follow religiously.
These unfortunate souls, are true believers, and get quite irate should you question the reality of the storyline that continues from week to week.
The truth of the matter is, the combatants you see on the telly are probably the best stunt people in the business. After all, it is nearly impossible for a person to take a shot in the face like these players do without bleeding. But, then there are the rough and tumble times where there is blood sometimes fake sometimes real. And the storyline certainly adds to the flavor for the viewers.
But yes, for the most part, it is fake regarding the actual "wrestling match". The whole scenario is rehearsed over and over and a script is followed just like a regular television show with the winner defeating the other guy at just the precise time dictated by the script.

Nice question my friend professional wrestling is entertainment
they have standard exhibition bouts and Main events. Wrestling
has to be fake or their would be broken Necks but on the other side I'm sure there are injuries. These guys are in great shape and work hard at what they do as gay as wrestling is it seems to have a fan base gets Good ratings so i guess they are succeeding in the entertainment business. Go to google and look up John stossel slapped by wrestler and you will get a cool video.

The WWE is definitely real in the athletics/ physical side of it. I mean they do get injured. Remember Owen Hart back in 97?
But it's exhibition in that these moves area all rehearsed before the tv cameras roll and the results are pre-determined. My friend was at the MEN Arena at Manchester - Big Show was meant to be knocked out & he was talking to the audience!
That's why it's WWE - world wrestling entertainment.

They call it "Sports Entertainment" for a reason. Yes it is mostly fake, but these are great talented athletes. They have to know how to sell the moves to make them look real. They know how to control the crowd and make them like or hate certain superstars from week to week. Try falling off the top of a 20 foot high steel cage and see if you can still walk. These people have broken bones, suffered concussions, and some have even died because they love entertaining their fans
