No. It perpetuates racial stigmas, and divides many communities.

Hi,

I don't necessarly think that profiling stops crime but look at the statistics.

If a person is purple and hanging out in a neighboorhod where purple crime is an issue than it might just be a good assumption by law enforcement that this person might be up to no good.

I am a FIRM believer that if you get busted for something DUMB then you were in the wrong place at the wrong place at the wrong time and FLAT STUPID to be there in the first place.

The JOB of law enforcement is to OBSERVEso THEY do NOT get BLOWN AWAY by some IDIOT.

If somebody is walking toward the door of a store with BIG PANTS, observation says, "Hey they might be stealing something" and they take the necessary action.

They see 4 guys in a pimped car driving slowly through a drug neighboorhood I wonder what that is about.

Black, Hispanic or Muslim should NOT place themselves in that position. At the same time, caucasions should not wander around in drug neighborhoods with a knit cap at 3 AM.

I do NOT believe that it is profiling by RACE but by ACTIONS. Hell the guy that got tazered at the college library was an IDIOT and is NOW suing. The IDIOT is simply looking for a pay-off because he can't find a job.

I don't care what color, race or religion someone is. If law enforcement TELLS you to do ANYTHING, you JUST DO IT WITHOUT A PROBLEM and sort out the justice later. They are there to keep coeds from getting raped in the parking lot after lights out.

They are simply doing their job and NOT getting KILLED by some NUT in the process.

Just CHILL

Jacques

It seems that certain races are associated with certain crimes, so I suppose we could consider racial profiling when trying to solve crimes. For example, most mass murders are white males. Drug smugglers are non-white etc..The problem is that when the police use racial profiling they are on the edge of committing a crime themselves. Our constitution is very clear on how police are to deal with us and race is not listed as probable cause.

So your answer is yes, racial profiling could improve certain investigations, but it's probably a crime if it is not carried out the right way.

This begs the question, do we settle for a police state in which every single person is continually being checked out (and thus not being profiled per se) or do we leave our nation exposed to terrorism while worshiping at the alter of being politically correct....

Not all crime, but some. You can pretty much tell by the way a person carries themself if they are a criminal or not. For those who choose to look like one and insist not to be, well, I think that they are just inviting trouble. This happens across all races.

No, not at all but profiling the suspected criminal does help solve crimes; doesn't matter race or whatever other than for a description to help investigators.

NOOOOO!!!! Having strong social institutions - education, health, police, community - prevents crime. Racial profiling just pisses good people off and hurts the standing of the police in communities making it less likely to help prevent crime.

yes. You have to remember that racial profiling can be applied to all races...black homies, latin vatos, and white peckerwoods....It is a tool that all cops use. You can't help it, it is what it is, but it does prevent and reduce crime.

Edit: Blue Steel and Lace.....You said it all!

we hope we are more civilized now and still try to refine it with good intensions to make the whole of the human race loveable to each other and try to teach them of mutual assistance for the general welfare of the society .

I will answer with a metaphor; it's as PC as I can make it:

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and drives around in duck neighborhoods, then it shouldn't be surprised at being shot at during duck season.
