You could try piercing the bit of skin between the thumb and index finger.
I did that for a time. I connected an earring to a chain that had a finger-ring on the other end that I wore on my middle finger. The stupid thing caught on everything I wore so I took the whole thing off after a couple days and let it heal.

My buddy got his heart pierced with an armor-piercing bullet once. That was pretty bad and I'd have to go with that as the worst.

I would say it you want others to see the piercing, I would go with the small "pinch" of skin between your eyes. It is something everyone would see and say "WHat the ...." Of course if you mean a piercing to keep hidden or not visible I would say go south !!
