Is it against the law to shoot a dog if u think it is in so much pain that it would be more humane to kill it on the spot?
What if its not? What if you did not take it to the vet to get it checked out and all it had was arthrits?
Could you be charged with murder, or animal cruelty?

It wasn't me but I know a person that did that. I am not sure if they brought him to the vet at all, because their lie made no sence, but they shot him. And I think they should not have shot him at all. But the lie they told me was that they brought it to the vet and all he could tell them was bad news. So what they brought it home and shot it????

Besides there is like 10 different veterinary clinic in about walking distance. Also it was within city limits.

It's against the law to shoot a dog. You have to take it to the vet to get it euthanized, so this guy committed a crime and should be prosecuted.

It depends upon the locale, but there are all sorts of probable violations here, including some possible felonies. Unfortunately, the more severe charges are associated with discharging a firearm; the strongest violations I've seen for "cruelty to animals" are Class 1 Misdemeanors.

Killing an animal, no matter what the circumstances, is not murder by definition of law.

Well first of all, it would be illegal to discharge a firearm in city limits. Next, you can't just go around killing dogs you see on the street. It could be someones pet. You could be charged with animal cruelty along with a myriad of other weapons violations. It would not be murder, obviously, since the person didn't kill a human. However, you better watch out, most serial killers start off by killing animals!!

1. It's not murder.
2. Not animal cruelty either, sounds crazy, but trust me.
3. They may have lied to you, but that's not a crime...their dog.
4. It costs a lot (to some people) to put a pet down...they may have been saving money. Crazy, but I've seen it before.

Good luck, anyway.

I would trust a medical experts opinion on that situation. I hope this doesnt happen very often. However, if the dog is yours then you can do this. However, if the dog is not yours....do not risk it and let the owner deal with it.

Take it to the vet, you don't want to risk the chance of messing with the law.
