Kobe isn't selfish, watch the damn Lakers before you jump to conclusions. He is being more a distributor now than ever before in his career even though it doesn't show in his stats.
The Lakers have just about any chance as any team. Think about it, people automatically eliminate them...saying MAYBE they'll make it to the second round. I say its a definite possibility. And you know what, thats my opinion, just like everyone else's.
Its not the same squad as it was a few years ago or even a year ago. They are more perfected in the triangle and have added pieces such as Radmanovic (who is injured in his hand), Maurice Evans, and Jordan Farmar (rookie). Ronny Turiaf is coming along as well as Andrew Bynum.
Like I said, watch the damn games before jumping to conclusions (not the Asker, but others on here).

The reason the Lakers are not getting any love from Sportscenter is because it is very early in the season. They are looking pretty damn good though. Kobe is averaging only 16 shots a game and is being a great facilitator as well as a leader. The great thing about the Lakers right now is that they have a pretty deep roster and any given player can step up on any given night to put up big numbers.
That being said, The Lakers have mostly played at home so far this season. The real test for them is coming up when they have to play something like 22 out of 30 games on the road. Hopefully Kobe has a speedy recovery from his ankle injury tonight, but the Lakers have been able to win this season without Kobe so we'll have to see. They definitely have as good a chance as anybody to go all the way this year.

The season is still too early to call. Lakers are playing well & the Mavs are playing their best with 11 straight after starting 0-4. Depending on where they are at by the All-Star break then you can start matching up the best teams to make the playoffs.
The Western Conference is playing better than the East Conference. Where are World Champs Miami?
If Lakers continue their good team play then they will be playoff contenders.

They're good now. Kobe's playing more team ball and that's translating to success for the Lakers. But they've had an easy schedule, compared to teams like the Suns for instance (who played a few playoff teams for the first and second weeks).
I'd say the Lakers will make the playoffs. How far in? No idea. Depends on who they match up with.

Too early to be getting excited about a team. I think that is why no one has jumped on the Jazz or Laker bandwagon. The Lakers have been playing good and Kobe is a machine when it comes to scoring.

since Bryant came back O'dom most games is a no-show
Bryant thinks so highly of himself he'll be the poison pill in any Lakers playoff series - hogging the ball until it's obvious the Lakers are going down..then avoiding the shots like the plague to try not to be associated with another failure
Outside of LA he is seen as a terrific shooter with an oversize ego that is deflating to be with

Too many good teams in the west. Lakers stand no chance. They'll MAYBE make it to the 2nd round of the playoffs but that's unlikely.

That is because it is a long season. The team has played well, but let's see where they are at mid-season.
