I read it when I was a freshman in high school I think, it was a tremendous book, as the people above me stated what it is about, it is a very emotional book and it really let's you see the rural Alabama in that time through the eyes of a little girl. I would recommend it to anyone. Their are alot of plots in the book.

To Kill a Mockingbird is about a young girl named Scout that lives with her brother Jim and her father Atticus. It takes place over three years and shows how she grows ups baised on her surroundings, one being the trial brought against an innocent african american man (Scout's father is his lawyer) who had supposedly raped a young caucisian girl.
A really good read :D The movie isn't bad either.

It is about a white lawyer defending a black man accused of raping a white woman. It takes place in the South and is narrated by Atticus'[{the white lawyers daughter}when she was a child and her memories of that time. But the important thing is that it takes place in the South back in the early 1930's. It is set in a rural and very poor town during the depression. It is still my all time favorite book, and I absolutely loved the movie.

I'm 60 & I still reread that book at times; its wonderful. Demi Moore named one of her daughters after the main character in the book, Scout. I see that others have told you what the book is about. Its a great character study. PS: In the movie, Robert Duvall played the part of Bo Radley, the scary, next-door neighbor.

The book is about Scout, and chronicles three years of her life. In these three years, we see events that would change her. She met a boy she said she would marry, her father, Atticus, is defending a black man, who was accused of raping a white girl. Also, there is also the story arc of Boo Radley, who was the legendary person of the town and how she met him.
