this is going to sound lame, but I didn't really think of Santa Claus as a person but as a thing, like you know it's there, but you don't have to see it, like the wind or something along those lines.
My brother is 8 and he still believes in Santa Claus. I just tell him that the Santa at the mall may not be the real one, but one of his helpers because the real Santa has to keep working at the North Pole just to get all the gifts ready.

It wasn't ever "broken" to me...I pretty much just figured it out by the time I was 8 or 9. Though I "played along" for a couple more years, for my mom's sake. =P I still never came out and said, "I know Santa's fake"...I kinda just had fun pretending like it was all real or whatever...even now as an adult. *shrug* It may be lame to some, but it's more fun than being all sour and old and refusing to just play along. I'll admit it, I'm 28 but I definitely still have my "inner child" fully intact!

Santa is real, but not in the way he is portrayed in the media.

This is the true story of St Nicholas, and this is what my parents told about him. As a family, when we saw the TV shows, we would all have a good laugh.

My story is so awful.
I was in 4th grade and my teacher brought us to hang out with another class, and for some reason he asked
"Who still believes in Santa Claus?"
And I went to raise my hand, but I noticed no one else raised their hand so I didn't either....
So I started to question about Santa Claus.
And I found out about the toothfairy because my grandpa wanted to put the money under my pillow for the 1st time and he woke me up when he did so. My grandmother was the one that always did it, she was skilled at it, but my gramps wasn't!

I was prob. about 9, I was on the school bus, and one of my older brothers friends was trying to pick on me while talking to a few other buddies. It was a few weeks before Christmas, and he said he just heard that Santa had died, then did a mean laugh.
I went home and asked my parents, and wanted the truth, and I finally got it out of them.
Nice friends huh! lol

I was about 5 or so when I really thought about how he wasn't coming to our house because we didn't have a fireplace. I basically thought he had existed in the past, like maybe a hundred years before. I asked my mom and she didn't want to lie to me so she gave me roundabout answers that didn't convince me of much. By the time I was 6 or 7, I decided he probably didn't exist at all. I don't remember having any feelings about it.

I was probably about 9, my sister told me about it .. the little witch. I ran to my mom to ask her if it was true, which was when my mother explained to me the tradition of Santa. She finished it off by saying that only kids who believe get presents, with a big grin, so of course I proclaimed that I believed and went off to play.
It wasn't a big deal.

i'm pretty sure i was 5 or 6 when we started to focus less on santa being a person in the house. like the tooth fairy. we were three siblings, so amongst ourselves we discovered it. (finding all the gifts in our parents' dressing room before Xmas)

It was a gradual thing when I was around 11. No one actually told me. It happened around the same age with my children. The youngest wouldn't admit to it until he was 13! I think he was afraid of a possible negative effect under the tree.
