am i emo...?

Question

i have emo hair, an emo hat, i like emo music, i have emo shirts, wristbands, i am emotional, and i play an acoustic guitar and such. but i will not wear tight jeans, nor will i wear eyeliner. i will also never get pierced, anywhere. ok, well, anyways, ive been called emo a lot. but i never really thought about it. it's just the way i am. so i started thinking about it. i asked my friends on a scale o 1-10 am i emo. most of the results were between 5-7. i also had a 3 and a 10 though. i am completely confused... oh! and another thing i do is straighten my hair. i do this strictly because i do not like curly or wavy hair at all. but yes. please help. i am clueless.

Emo is a title you give to yourself. There's also the emo "look", but you become "officially" emo when you commit masochism, [cut yourself, take some kind of drug to simulate a false reality, etc...] wear heavy eye makeup and have piercings/tattoos. For me, I have piercings, wear heavy eye makeup, and am quite sensitive, no one else really sees past that, since I wear all black, and act depressed, I am a total emo loser with an eating disorder, when really...i don't have an eating disorder. But I do see myself as emo, though I'm not saying I'm proud of it. It's just I've felt this way for so long, I don't really know how to feel any other way. What other people see you as, and what you think of you may be totally different, and that is the way people are. You don't have to get piercings, or wear makeup. No one can tell you who you are. If you want people to call you emo, then say "Yeah, I'm emo...get over it." If not, then just forget about it. It's your choice, not mine or anyone else who answers this question.

I'm emo/goth sure there's a change and I'm a mixture of each... My dad calls me emish, I'm looking ahead to that to trap on haha... Emos are fine the sort rocks at the side of the style in tune and surely emo is created by way of tough lives or pasts nonetheless, this does not imply we're regularly unhappy and depressed we do smile!!

well it depends on what you think the definition of emo is. Is it the clothes you wear? Or is it your actions. I know some people who would say that if you don't think you are emo, then you probably are. But my opinion is that those names like emo and goth and prep should not define a person. I use to dress in black with baggy pants and listen to some pretty horribly screaming music and I was the happiest girl you would ever meet.

No ..i mean idk. you could be considered more scene then anything, im very scene, i have the hair the style the piercings, the emotions, and i wear skinny jeans and everything, although you could just be ourself you know because most scene kids wear tight jeans and eyeliner. But naw, i dont believe you are emo, more emo-ish kids tend to wear layered clothes. and dark rimmed glasses. on a scale i would give you about a ...5.

i got called a poser once, and the funny thing was, yea my hair was green and i wore (still do) bracelets, BUT i listen to country music, i live in the ghetto......i never understood what i was posing.

you r what u r. just cuz u dress 1 way doesnt mean anything. id say, personally, its the music you listen to. (no, im not country..i listen to ANYTHING). and if u listen to emo music, and can actually relate to some of it, then yea, id say ur an emo kid =)

emo has nothing to do with the way you look, unless you count cuts or bruises. emo means ppl who are suicidal, so unless u wanna kill urself(and if u do, im here for u message me if u wanna talk), dont call urself emo. cuz then ur a poser
