I just read that a mother with a 4 year old and a 7 year old breast fed them to survive. I wasn't able to breast feed when my son was born 10 weeks ago. This makes me think that I can begin the process now. Anyone with experience with this or a lactation specialist to help me out?

I didn't to begin with because my son had very bad jaundice and wasn't strong enough to latch on. We also had a positive Coombs test which is a blood incompatability. Breast feeding at that time would have risked his health. But now, he is eating well and gaining.

Sure can! if mothers who have never had babies can do it, so can you. What a great gift to give your baby. Begin by seeing if he will latch on. Try gettins a supplemental nursing system (SNS ) and ditching the bottles if he will latch. If he won't latch, you can still try to teach him.

Good luck!

Hey! It can be done either with the medication or by pumping and trying to get him to latch on once your milk has come in a bit. I know when my daughter was born 9 weeks ago, I wasn't breast feeding and my milk dried up. Then out of the blue, 7 weeks after it dried up, I was leaking all over the place for 3 days. It seemed to start as soon as she cried and I held her on my chest. Maybe it's the whole "mom" thing that got it going again!!

Good luck and I hope your milk comes in and he latches on with no problems!!

It can definitely be done, It takes alot of dedication, using a breast pump at regular intervals everyday until the milk ducts are stimulated, women who adopt babies do it. Good luck, find a really good breast pump, your nipples will get sore, you can use a breast cream for them until they get used to the pump, if you really want to do it just be diligent.

yes, you can start feeding your baby through pumping. you will also have to consult your doctor for some pills for producing much more milk in your breast.

Highly unlikely, unless you've been pumping to keep the milk supply there since birth. You're likely all dried up by now; I think it's too late.

Ask your ob but there is a pill you can take to help you produce milk for your baby.

4 yr old and 7 MONTH old, dear. You can try to stimulate your milk with a pump, but its not likely you will get anything, or that the baby will take to it now anyway.

You need to tell us why you were unable to breast feed initially.
