It is up to personal preferance.
My personal preference is PS3. The reasons I prefer this system is due to its more detailed graphics (in my opinion) and much more sophisticated and powerful components.
But… personal preferences are much like butt-holes, we all have one, and most of them stink. So the best bit of advice I have for you is to purchess the one that you want the most, and above all, do not listen to people that write like… “Nintendo Wii pwnz yoo, xbox360 Rulz yoo face!i!...”… hope this helps…

This all depends on what you're interested in....
1) The XBox 360 will likely have the most extensive game library, at least for the next 5 or so months. It has been around for about a year and there are several licensed programmers who make games for it who have "gotten used to it" and can also write games more quickly for it...at least for now.
2) The PS3 is the technical powerhouse by a significant factor: between it's Cell processor architecture and 5 times storage capacity of X-Box DVD architecture (for more hi-res, high polygon textures and longer, higher res in-game movies) you get movie-like games and ability to play blue-ray videos. Problem: you need an HD-TV to really benefit from the high resolution textures, but you still get an unreal sense of motion and almost scary degree of realism (see Ridge Racer trailers). The system also has all the latest surround sound built in so, in a way, if you already have a killer TV and sound system, or get a kick of seeing something in first-person shooters so realistic it makes you jump (even better than Doom 3 graphics) or ultra-realistic racing games you in a way owe it to yourself to get the PS3.

360 is pretty good...but PS3 is king of the next generation.
People complain about he PS3 price but let's look at it from a different angle.
Take the 360 and PS3. Now let's make them somewhat equal, i.e. pricewise and hd capability by adding the HD add on to the 360. Now you have two systems with High Def capability, and same price, since the HD addon is $200.
360-20 gigs while ps3-60 gigs
360-tri core processor, ps3-8 core processor
360-HD DVD (25 gig limit), ps3-Blu-Ray (50 gig+ limit)...not to mention more motion picture and manufactor support.
Two systems, same price. People complain about the price tag yet you get more for your money with the PS3. And with a technologically superior system, comes greater capabilities. That is why PS3 is king.

I've played both and I like the PS3 more. The XBOX 360 doesn't have as many capabilities and the graphics don't even look real, the people look like clay! PS3 on the other hand looks real. And the controller is motion-scensored plus is lighter in weight

I have xbox cuz it was cheaper and WAY better games than ps3, but thats my opinion, besides if ur like me and dont own an HDTV then ur gunna pay an extra 200 for the ps3 cuz of its BUILT in blue ray player, xbox came out with the add on hd dvd so for ppl who dont own an hdtv dont have to pay an extra 200, and from what ive been reading hd dvd is going to win over blu ray

i have the xbox 360, and love it, but i've heard alot of negative things about it and seen first hand...like it breaking and having to wait a week or two while its being sent to microsoft repair center....the ps3 i havent played yet, but i think sony took the time to work out most of the bugs in it, plus if you go hdtv if offers hdmi connection.....which is the highest available picture quailty...i would say go with the ps3
