Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont each broke off of Massacussets, and must of changed the Social Contract for the better. Yet Vermont does have the shortest state constitution.
West Virginia broke from Virginia and has at least 50 ammendments to their constitution.
South Dakota and North Dakota were part of a big terrirtory then a smaller one then split and must have fought about it.
Still don't know why Alabama is a lot like Florida but they can count faster, Aloha means:We so scared of you but give us the money, or why it takes three Californians to screw in a lightbulb one to hold the ladder, one to screw in the lightbulb, and one to relate to the experience. Don't figure?

In maine we have our share of murderers, psychopathic housewives, hatecrimes etc, etc. Some kind of crap going on each week or so as opposed every day in other states. Only got around 1,500,000 people in the state. Cops killed an guy recently, shot him in front of his parents house. He had a gun. guess he made the wrong move. Never gets too boring even in Maine.
P.S. we got the same problem in our state capital. Except they wanna borrow money to buy the lightbulb. Hire an out of state company at an extreme cost (borrow that too.) to put the bulb in and tax the pants off of the 1/2 million people in the state who actually work to pay for the lightbulb and to support 1/5 of the population on welfare. CALGONE MAN TAKE ME AWAY. God help us. no one else can.

As a NH resident, I would guess it's because there's no where near the amount of people as in other places. None of those states have a lot of 'big cities', there is a lot of land and a lot of small communities that are quite a bit more tight knit. I still get news from home on who's doing what. The open space really does make crime less of a possibility since you actually know your neighbors and town residents. You can't really get away with a lot.

But it's sort of a contridiction for NH because two of our cities (Nashua and Manchester) were named on the most dangerous cities in the country.

no fun=not so much violence. places where there is partying, drugs, etc are usually places where there is a lot more violence. reason why, is that people who are involved in violence are often intoxicated or high on something--- or want to be. so, violence often results. if it isn't a place where they have a lot of drugs or partying, then violence and crime isn't as likely.

you are talking about the number of people compared to the amount of violence, not the number of violent acts per state compared to each other period.

as for your last paragraph, it doesn't really make much sense.

because there arent a lot of young people here. I live in Portland,Maine, Maine's largest city. It is very safe, but for a city it is very gray, meaining there are lots of retired folks. Maine is now, according to my Uncle who used to work for the State, the grayest state in the nation. Not a lot of cities means not a lot of drugs means not a lot of crimes usually.

Are you on drugs or bipolar....none of your comments string together to make any coherent sense.

All are primarily rural-based states, with many small towns. None have a major metropolitan area.
