Ok...so before my laptop started freezing I had downloaded the new version of Aim 6.0...and also downloaded Quick time...when I start up the laptop and I am on the seeing the desktop icons this message pops up saying something about xprt5.dll and that something needs to be reinstalled to fix this problem....I have no idea what this is talking about...I already deleted the Aim and Quicktime and the message still appears...also I might note that on myspace everyone that had quicktime got a message saying we needed to download a patch because there was something wrong with quicktime and peopel were phishing accounts.

Hi,
This may be due to various causes. First, if you hve an antivirus, please update it and run it, don't do anything else besides waiting for the scan to run, close all aplications running. If you have a Toolbar for your internet browser (explorer, netscape, firefox, etc), this usually slows too much the download of the webpage content your trying to buy, so i suggest if not too important for you, remove the toolbars on your browser.
Do system maintenance often... antivirus, clean Disk (for unwanted files) this is a tool that windows has (if you run windows :S you don't gave so much detail about your system and what you do with your computer. However, if this is going on for the past 2 days, maybe a recent installation of a program, may be causing this. you can do a System restore on windows to a previous configuration on a specific date... this may be very useful.
Another advice, do you have a download program such as limewire, napster, kazaa, etc. This slows the computer performance, by taking the memory...
To further help you i need to know...
What operating system are you running?
How much memory (RAM) your system has?
Some free resources that may help get rid of Spyware that may also slow your computer....
Very useful and removes so much junk of your computer and is free, no limits, no expiracy!!
Ad Aware SE
http://lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
Also the Spybot Search & Destroy is very useful too. You may dowload it from www.downloads.com it's free too, and it never expires.
that may help for now to clear a little bit your computer... and please post again the details i asked to better answer...
Good luck!

Sounds like you need to do some plain ol' ordinary housecleaning:
- Are you using a complex screensaver - it runs in the background and eats memory.
- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
then cl Remove.
This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.
1.Did you run an error check? Open My Computer,
Right-cl on C:, Select Properties, Tools – Run an Error Check ( checkmark “check all and fix); then run a Defrag
2.Are you using Yahoo Toolbar? Run a full Norton Antispy.
3.From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart
3.click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup
4.click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)
All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
-Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. If this doesn’t help, you might want to consider getting more memory.

What has changed in the last 2 days???
It's obviously something that has loaded ... whether you've installed something or a "gremlin" has installed itself
Try a System Restore to a date before you were having problems ... remember to backup any data first ... and anything you have installed since the restore date you pick will be un-installed during the System Restore
Good Luck :)

You may have a virus. . If not, then you may need to clean out your computer if you haven't done so already. . . . Delete all the History, and Temporary Internet Files, then do a System Defrag. If those don't help, then i'd do a format and recover. Yeah, you'll lose everything, but it will work.

Do you have any antivirus software installed? How about antispyware? I would recommend downloading, installing, and running AVG Antivirus and Antispyware. You can download them a free version at www.download.com. Especially if you are using internet explorer. Hope this helps.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
