Most definitely. I'm alone in my house right now, and I'm perfectly content. And while walking through a crowded mall, anyone can feel just as lonely as if they were trapped on an unpopulated island.

Alone is a physical situation, whereas loneliness is an emotion. The two are very different from each other.

The difference between being content and alone and being lonely and alone is mostly your surroundings. I'm in my house, a familiar and comforting place. Were I alone in a prison cell, I might feel very lonely.

The reason one can feel lonely in a crowd of people is that it matters what people you're surrounded by. If you go to a party where you don't know anyone, of course you'll feel lonely and out of place.

Then there is also the case of people with low mood, like someone with depression or a person facing an existential crisis. You could be around people you've known and loved all your life and still feel horribly lonely. I don't pretend to know why this is, but it is undeniably true. Well, for anyone who's ever experienced it, anyway.

Yes, definitely you can be alone and not lonely: this shows your self esteem is high and you don't need people to fulfill you. On the other hand you can also be lonely but not alone, this shows you are not happy in the relationship or circumstances (i.e.; party) that you're in.

Absolutely. It's like being in a room full of people but feeling lonely or being by yourself but feeling fulfilled. To me it is a sign that others can not make you happy. You control whether or not you feel lonely or content.

Simply put, yes.

To be Along but not Lonely shows a sign of spiritual fulfillment and allows you to understand solitude, not isolation or loniless.

To be Lonely but not Alone shows that you are in control of your actions and that you can zone out, so to speak, any unecessary noise to focus on your inner self and allow yourself to feel loniless.

of course you can be alone and not be lonely..it's easy..most of the time I want to be left alone so I can rest...focus..and regain energy and most of all to spend time w/my Saviour...and yes you can be lonely and not alone...even if you have millions of people surrounding you..but on the inside you're lonely and longing..for the peace and the joy that you can only find in Jesus...

Yes.
Other people are not a prerequisite for lonliness.
Many people are satisfied without the company of others, and in fact, may find them intrusive.
Just as easily, you can be in a crowd of people and be lonely, if you are not personally content.

Yes. Beling alone does not necessarily mean you are lonely, and being around people does not necessarily mean you're NOT lonely.
