fun teachers are definatly better in my opinion. it mainly matters to the student, for a strong disciplines, studious student, a strict teacher would be much better, because they get right to the point and teach the lesson well. however, for a more impatient student who doesnt enjoy school as much, a fun teacher will make the class interesting, grasping my attention more, and therefore i will listen more, and learn more in a funner class than in a class with a strict teacher.

Teachers are no longer to instill knowledge on students meaning the days of sit down and write this are over thank god.
teachers are facilitators in their environment teaching their students to become independent learners. Helping them to realise their cognitive abilities. This means the teacher has to interact with the students more often formativly assessing as they go (I HOPE). Its because of that interaction that teacher and student relation ships are built (who wants to be unhappy in their work). the reformes education has undergone in the last 20 years has really improved its intention the classroom is now an inclusive environment more relaxed (by the way school is not fun its interesting ) there is a difference think about it.
if its interesting the good times roll as every one participates and new learning takes place. if its just fun then the possibility is that no learning will happen. I had great fun at school but learnt nothing it was only through careful nurturing by my fantastic wife that i did eventually realise my own potential and I went to University studiying bachelor of education (so now I'm a teacher)

I don't think it really matters whether the teacher is strict or easy-going. What does matter is whether the teacher enjoys his/her profession.
Teachers who enjoy teaching will automatically come across as more easy-going because they want their students to learn. And, if the teacher is especially passionate about his/her particular subject, so much the better. Such teachers tend to have "funner" classrooms.
By contrast, a teacher who teaches for a paycheck is less likely to engage his/her students, since he/she is going to get paid regardless. These teachers' classes tend to be more rigidly structured, so much so in some cases that the teacher's lesson plans never change from year to year. It would be difficult for just about any student to enjoy such a class.

I think it depends a lot on the student. When i was in school I had students that could sit through an hour long lecture and understand everything. I get bored and lose interest in 10 minutes. I have had a couple profess. who have made it interactive and fun...we talk back and she does hands on things and told jokes..I learned more in that one class than in 3 lectured all put together because she kept me interested.

Both you can be strict and still have a fun interactive class. The key is to tailor how you are going to teach to each class because each class it different. Each class has it's own personality. The trick is getting them involved and working together especially in Algebra and Trig classes.
