I want compared stats. Im not interested in just hearing "Because Morneau sucks." or "Jeter has a better career through out his life" or anything like that. If anyone just answers like that i will just completely ignore it.

I want compared stats on this year, and THIS year only. "Leadership" is not part of a stat.

So compare between Morneau and Jeter

(I know this questions late but... hedh)

Just get over it. Jeter isn't as valuable to the Yanks as Morneau is to the Twins. Jeter is surrounded by high-caliber players on his team. Take him out, and the the Yankees are still the same damn team, no one would notice a difference in the Yanks without Jeter. He's not an altering force like Morneau is to the Twins. So therefore Morneau is more valuable to his team, and that's why he won.

think of what they meant to the their teams- morneau led the twins to the postseason in the toughest division in baseball- White Sox won like 90 games and came in third. Morneau hit a bunch of homers, alot came when the twins needed them. lots of rbi, good avg. morneau was helped in that his protection was often joe mauer, the a.l. batting champ. outside those two, though, Rondell White? Cuddyer was good, but played out of his mind this year. jeter had a season much like he's had before- people want to make a big deal about leadership and his classy way of going about things, but the mvp isn't a popularity contest. jeter plays a nice shortstop, hits for average and occasional power, but he'll have trouble winning the mvp if he continues to just play like he has. he'll need to play on a yankee team that isn't so stacked and take them to 100+ wins or something. a .350 season would do it, but he has to be the BEST to get the MVP. I beleive Morneau was the most valuable player because he did everything, not just 'lead' his team. look back- morneau took over a lot of games. 4-5, 2 HRs...lines like that. jeter can't really take over a game. plus it is easier for him. look at his lineup compared to the twinkies. I think those things are big, especially looking at the lineups and what each player had to do for their teams to get to the playoffs.

Jeter avg=.343 morneau=.321
jeter obp=.417 morneau=.375
jeter hits= 214 morneau hits=190
jeter homers=14 morneau homers=34
jeter rbi= 97 morneau rbi=130
jeter runs=118 morneau= 97
jeter total bases= 301 morneau tbases=331
jeter walks=69 morneau walks= 53

numbers (except power) favor jeter, so it must be something else. I think it is value to their teams, and morneau gets it on that fact.

take away jeter, yanks still win 90. take away morneau, twinkies might be .500.

Because Morneau drove in 130 RBI's, 2nd in the AL. The voters love RBI's. There is also the impression that the Yankees would have won anyway without Jeter, and there is no way the Twins would have won the Central w/o Morneau.

I don't really care about stats.

Its the most VALUABE player. Morneau was more valuable to his team that anyone, including Jeter was to the Yankees.

Enough said.
