Sadly, I weaned my son at 3 months. I wanted to try to do it for a year or so, but I had a very very low supply so we had to supplement with formula. I decided that I would continue for at absolute least 3 months and even though I nursed him beforehand for sometimes up to an hour on each side, he would still drink a whole bottle afterwards.
When I stopped, I went a week nursing him only first thing in the morning and last thing at night, and all bottles during the day. Then a few more days of just at night, and then all bottles.
He made the switch pretty easy. He would still turn his head in towards me when he was ready for his bottle, but now (almost 10 months) that has stopped too. He takes sips of mostly water, occasionally juice, from a regular cup, and totally rejects the sippy cups. All of his formula comes from a bottle.

With my first he was 18 months old, and he went from breast to cup no in between. My 2nd was 6 months and he was still at bottle age so he had bottle, sippy cup and then regular cup. My daughter is now 4 months old and I plan to wean her by 9 months to a year. It is easiest for the baby to adjust if you have used a bottle before, and it may take up to a week or so for them to stop getting upset and look to the breast for comfort. This is a hard time for mommy and baby I wish you the best.

I weaned my baby when she was almost 2. We made it through the day and I felt like I had tricked her. But I wanted my body back. She had a bottle for some things and sippy cups and regular plastic cups.

I stopped actual breastfeeding around six months because I couldn't handle the teeth. I still pumped my milk into bottles until my daughter was one. Then I gave her sippy cups.
Actually, I first introduced the bottle at 3 mon. and it was hard because she wouldn't take it and she would cry the whole time I had to leave her with someone. So, from then on I used a bottle periodically so she would be used to drinking from one.

I weaned at 2 months. I have a greedy baby and it seemed as if he wasnt getting enough. I also didnt want him to get TOO attached. I have heard plenty of stories in which the kids do not want to wean at all. When I weaned, I had a few bags of breast milk in the freezer, and my plan was to do the bottles half formula, half breast milk for a while and taper off until he gets used to the taste of formula. I ended up not doing that at all because he took right to the formula

This issue is really one of culture. I chose to toss western "wean your baby by the age of one" philosophy and went with what was natural.
My older daughter weaned herself a little after turning two.
My younger daughter took longer. When she was nearly four, we had a little discussion about it. I told her that it was really for babies and babies don't ride 4-wheelers. (She had one of those battery powered ones.) I also explained that big girls get good things like 4-wheelers to ride..... and asked her if she wanted to be a big girl.
Well, that night she was crying a lot. I finally asked her if she wanted it. Through her tears she said yes.... but she wanted to be a big girl too! So I told her she could have it if she wanted it. That was the last time she nursed. I think she needed to know I wasn't rejecting her.
My daughters are both adult women now, and very independent. We are close, but they are not clinging to their mommy. All the naysayers are just spewing what the western culture has taught them.
Jesus most likely nursed until he was 4 or 5 yrs old, so I figured if it was good enough for the Lord, it was good enough for my children. :o)
God Bless,
Sue

It was at 6 months for my son. I did so because I thought it was time for him to start on other foods besides breast milk, and I sure as hell wasn't going to be one of those mothers that's out there breastfeeding their 5-year-old. Most people wean their baby between 6 and 12 months.

The AMA recommends over twelve months. the international wellbeing enterprise recommends at 2 years. My own opinion is the superb time to wean is while is stable for you and the newborn, and which could selection very extensively.
