No, you can still be rich and have people resent you for being female or black, male and white. Poverty may be associted with these two terms, but it does not result from them.

No. Kobe Bryant is a bad example to try and make this point. Poverty has nothing to do with the things you have asked about. It is an ecxuse for an under achiever. Disagree is my answer.

That would be painting with a broad brush.

I knew a Black Republican man who was a lawyer and running for a public office. He told me that a few of his brothers were in prison. Others had trouble with the law and were free, but on probation, etc. He is the only one of 7 brothers who went to college, worked his way through college and law school, and make a life for himself that one could be proud of.

So the discussion comes about: Why do all these boys from one family, one set of parents, in the same neighborhood, throw their lives away, but one stays clean, gets an education and becomes a significant asset to society?

While the socio-economic status of a child growing up does play a role, is there still a personal choice to be made? I believe in personal choices!

I messed my own life up terribly, but at least I acknowledge that I am the one who made the wrong choices and so am now in poverty. I'm not blaming anyone else. I could blame ex-husbands, but let's fact it..... I picked 'em! I could blame an alocholic father, but sheesh! I'm an adult and made my own choices.... for good or bad.

At some point in life, people need to be adults and take responsibility for their own actions.

Best Wishes,

Sue

I don't know anything about Kobe Bryant but I disagree.

This is America. Work hard, get ahead. We are a society built on the concept of the underdog. We most admire ppl who came from nothing, and advanced themselves, through hard work and/or ingenious invention.

disagree

I think it is the result of a lack of education
and poor family values........
Examples:
Lack of discipline
Abuse.......pick one alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, child. These create feelings of low self esteem which give the abuser an "excuse" to remain in poverty
Lack of Morales
No religious foundation given to the children

I don't know what Kobe Byrant has to do with your question....
perhaps you could explain further.
Last I knew of him he was an athlete (over paid like most athletes) who isn't in poverty because he is a outstanding basketball player.
He still lacks the family values which probably is what landed him in court anyways.
How about side show freak Mike Tyson................now There's a charmer. You can take the boy out of the hood but you can't take the hood out of the boy...............if he's not the epitome of wasted talent I don't know who is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
