You can't cash it in unless you are Joe Smoe, but if it was from your own account, your bank can cancel it for you, refunding your account, however minus some money as transaction / service fees.

You can go to your bank or the place where you got the check.
Write your name on it as the issuer (Some money orders don't have this).
All you need is the receipt in most cases and if you go to your own bank, you'll just need your ID (If your name is written in as issuer).
Whatever the case, the teller at your bank will tell you what you can do to deposit the money back into your account. It may be held for a few days while your bank makes certain that your money order is valid.

Since you have both the money order and the stub, you can cross the name out and take the money order back where you bought it from and cash it after telling them it was no longer going to be used for the purpose intended.

Go back to the place where you purchased the money order and they will refund your money, although there might be a small fee. Otherwise, there are numerous check cashing places who will cash it in for you.

I do not believe you can white out money orders. If your name appears as the purchaser you can return to the place that issued it for a refund or replacement. Your bank may also allow you to endorse it and deposit it if your name appears as the purchaser

you can try to take it back to wherever you got it from, and see if they can either void the money order or let you cash it yourself....other than that you would have to contact the money order company all that info should be on the back of the money order or money order reciept

Do not white it out but you can take it back to the place where you purchased it and as long as you have the receipt of purchase you can have it refunded back to you.
