If I ever have kids, I'm making them take out loans like I did. Call me a commie, but the Government provides an entire department to help kids meet the costs of education. They don't; however, have a program to pay for a mortgage or car loans.
That may sound callous, and of course I'd help them with other expenses. But yea, low interest rate deferred loans are very handy.

I haven't got any kids, but if I did, I would have been saving for their education from the moment they were born.

We had a stack of savings bonds at one time and my idiot first husband cashed them in, a couple at a time, to get the 50% purchase price, because we were low on cash, and it was so long ago that if we had saved them, our oldest would be in college by now!! Idiot.

Lucky for me, all my children are cats. Nice thing about that: you don't have to buy them cars or send them to college, and they stay home at night!
